Spoorzone Zwolle is one of the fastest-growing public transport nodes in the Netherlands. To optimize the passenger flows in and around the station, the area is currently being redeveloped. The parking underneath the station square will have space for approximately 5,500 bikes. With the construction of the facility, the municipality of Zwolle wants to improve the quality of the public space and encourage cycling. An optimal connection between bicycle and train is one of the principal elements of the city’s mobility vision.
Kraaijvanger Architects designed the parking garage as a subterranean urban space. The spacious layout, clear sightlines, and abundance of light ensure excellent functionality, comfort, and safety in the underground facility. During the project pitch, Silo and Kraaijvanger worked together on a narrative that fits the location and the people of Zwolle, thereby adding individuality and identity to the space. Powerful visual impact where you least expect it will result in a more positive experience.
The realization of the bicycle parking Zwolle is expected to be completed by 2020. The project is part of the commission to design and construct the new Stationsplein, which was awarded to Boskalis, Kraaijvanger Architects and Maxwan A+U.
