Welcome to the team, Paul!

Since January 2022 Paul van Barneveld has joined the design team of Silo. As Senior Designer he will play an important role in the development of new projects. To get to know Paul better, we asked him four questions.

Who are you and what is your background?

I am a conceptual, analytical thinker and I love to convey a visual message, always from the core idea of a brand. As real, timeless and simple as possible.

Over the past ten years, I have had the opportunity to develop many brand identities and experiences, in the broadest sense of the word: from branding concept to campaigns, from store to digital design, from signing to packaging design and from product design to art direction.

What appeals to you in the work of Silo?

The combination that Silo makes between branding, digital and spatial design excites me. And the finesse with which this is translated into the final result. I think the bicycle parking garage is a striking example where concept, design and execution come together into an incredibly great experience.

Which designer do you admire?

Several designers for different reasons. Anish Kapoor for the experience of his work through form, use of material, environment and the act of looking itself, among other things. Wim Crouwel for his rational, systematic and minimalist approach. And the iconic work of Dick Bruna for its simplicity in form and color palette.

What else should we really know about you?

I like to spend my free time with girlfriend and my children. And I like to be in or around the sea. That’s why I’ve enjoyed working as a Cleanups coordinator at the North Sea Foundation for a number of years now, and as a Surfing Companion at the Surf Project – surfing lessons for children with Down, autism or ADHD. To get away from the screen for a while I make wooden figures under the name @lentefiguur.
