Welcome designer Jesse!
Jesse van Meel joined Silo Creative Agency in April 2023. As a designer, he will work on projects for clients such as Muziekgebouw and Albert Heijn as well as new projects at the intersection of branding and the spatial environment. To get to know Jesse better, he answered four questions.
Who are you and what is your background?
I was born in the Eindhoven area. As a child, I was always exploring expression: drawing, performing, and creating things. During my studies at Sint Lucas in Boxtel, I came into contact with (graphic) design. I went on to study at the art academy in Arnhem and so developed myself conceptually. After graduating, I joined HeyHeydeHaas as a designer and I am now starting work at Silo.
What attracts you to Silo's work?
Several disciplines come together at Silo. I think flat (2D), so I’m very curious to see where my current skills come in handy and how to broaden my design expertise. It’s a challenge and an opportunity for growth. Furthermore, I am used to designing for (reasonably) short lifespans. It appeals to me that at Silo, designs are made that merge into environments and spaces, and perhaps last as long as the building itself.
What (design) challenges can they wake you up for?
When working on a project, I prefer to tell a complete story in a concept where everything adds up. Up until now, I have been able to do this mainly for publications and campaigns. I look forward to working on a complete visitor experience such as Silo developed for Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen. The design activates and stimulates the curious and inquisitive behavior of visitors.
What else should we really know about you?
I have a great love for sound and motion. You won’t often find me without headphones on and I go to the cinema at least once a week. I also play guitar, experiment with moving images and enjoy visiting museums and concerts.
