With seven distinct stages under one roof, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht is a nucleus of cultural and musical diversity, hosting an eclectic mix of performances and events. To further enhance the visitor experience, Silo is developing the renewal of the venue’s (digital) wayfinding and signage.
Located in the heart of Utrecht, TivoliVredenburg is one of the Netherlands’ biggest and most iconic music venues. Its programmatic richness is matched by its architectural diversity, with each hall designed by a different architect, resulting in a range of unique atmospheres. But with large crowds and diverse destinations, especially during busy times, navigating the venue can be tricky. This begins with finding the right entrance. The new wayfinding system and signage aim to address this challenge.

Large crowds and diverse destinations make navigating the venue tricky
This project focuses on ensuring intuitive and seamless navigation, enabling visitors to easily move through the building based on the programming. The new system will have a bold and distinctive design that fits TivoliVredenburg’s strong identity while staying practical and easy to maintain in the future.
The initial phase centres on the legendary Grote Zaal, designed by Herman Hertzberger, and its foyer, which is being revitalized by deMunnik-deJong-Steinhauser. This renewed foyer will soon be open to the public during the day, hosting exhibitions and other activities. While this phase focuses on specific areas, the overarching wayfinding concept will provide a solid base for future improvements across the entire building.
By blending creativity, functionality, and identity, Silo is helping TivoliVredenburg make every visitor’s experience even better at this one-of-a-kind cultural venue.
