Forum x Silo: Rethinking the cultural visitor experience

23 April 2025

We’re excited to kick off a new project with Forum Groningen: the city’s vibrant cultural hub and multifunctional landmark. Situated in the heart of Groningen, Forum brings together a library, cinema, exhibitions, event spaces, and a rooftop terrace. It’s a place where curiosity, creativity, and community come together.

Since opening its doors five years ago, Forum has become a beloved cultural destination – not just for the city, but for the wider region and international audiences. Its striking architecture and inclusive programming have made it a true extension of public space, embraced as a place to meet, explore, and connect.

The challenge: enhancing wayfinding and visitor flow

As Forum continues to evolve, so do the needs of its visitors. Despite its popularity, the current wayfinding system presents challenges that can interrupt the overall experience. Navigation isn’t always intuitive, and opportunities for deeper engagement with Forum’s rich and varied offer are sometimes missed.

An opportunity to align experience with identity

After a close look at the existing visitor journey, we identified key friction points and untapped potential. The result? A strategic concept that enhances clarity, coherence, and connection – making every visit smoother, more enjoyable, and more in tune with Forum’s bold identity.

What’s next: integrated, inspiring navigation

We’re now redesigning the physical wayfinding throughout the building to create a more intuitive and welcoming environment. This will be followed by a digital layer that goes beyond navigation – designed to spark curiosity, deliver real-time updates, and connect visitors more meaningfully with everything Forum has to offer.
